I haven't had time to write in this blog much, but I did get a chance
to jot some thoughts down recently, so I'm copying them here:
We're seeing his first real smiles. They started as half-smile, as
if he forgot what he was doing half-way there. They soon turned in to
big grins. His favorite things to smile at: his mama and baba and his
mobile.
This little guy is definately in love with his mobile. He talks to it
while looking back and forth from the mobile to one of us. So many
stories to tell! He has started to engage in little 'conversations'
with us. We'll talk to him and then pause, and he 'talks' back with
his 'ahhs' and 'oohs', then he'll break out in a grin as we respond.
Right now, as I write this, he is fighting sleep. It's naptime (more on this later) , but he wants to be up with us. He's in his swing, which usually works to get him to sleep. He just now started fussing so I had to stop writing and go to him. I looked into his eyes and softly told him to go to sleep. He quieted down and looked right back at me. He's such a little person now! When did this change happen?
On another note, thank goodness for the vacuum! A few weeks ago we were having coffee with Jason and Arwen at the bookstore, and they told us that when Malachi was Gabriel's age they had to use the vacuum to get him to sleep. Well, this was perfect timing, as a few days later our little guy *would not sleep.* At our wits end, we remembered the vacuum. Sure enough - it worked instantly. One second crying baby, next second - quiet. Although he's getting better, the vacuum is still the only sure way to get him to settle and *stay* settled. Unfortunately, the vacuum is wearing out after 3 weeks of use. I ordered a white noise machine, with the hope that it would get here before it broke! As murphy's law would have it, the post office has lost the package!
I just looked up and guess who's sleeping? Just this week he decided that the world is too interesting to take naps anymore. Before, there was no need for 'naptime' because he napped all day! Now, it's so obvious he needs to sleep, but he fights it every step. LOL...after I wrote that I looked up and he was shaking his head side ti side as if to say 'no sleep, fight it, fight it!' :-)
I've been writing down his activities for the past two weeks trying to see a pattern so we can have a kid-centered schedule. He seems to zonk out around 10:30/11:0, 2:00, and 4:30, with 7:30/8:00 being the start of his fussing time. As soon as that damn white noise machine comes in, we'll start trying to get him to sleep around 8:00. For right now, I have to be 'in' bed with him for him to sleep, and I don't want an 8:00 bedtime!
